Terms of Service
These terms are the agreement between you and the Drdesh operator ("we") for using the Drdesh apps and service. By creating an account or using Drdesh you accept them. We have tried to keep them short, honest, and readable — there is no small print that contradicts the big print.
1. What Drdesh is
Drdesh is a private messenger: end-to-end encrypted messages, media, voice notes, group chats, and one-to-one voice/video calls, with accounts anchored to an email address and a unique @username — no phone numbers. Two properties define the service and these terms assume both:
- We cannot read your messages or hear your calls. Content is encrypted between devices with the Signal protocol; our servers relay ciphertext they cannot decrypt.
- We keep no message history. The server stores an encrypted message only until it is delivered (30 days at most if your recipient never comes online), then deletes it. Your history exists only on your device — back your device up accordingly.
2. Your account
- Age. You must be at least 13 years old (or older where your country requires it) to use Drdesh.
- Email anchor. Your email address is how you sign in and how your account moves to a new phone. Keep access to it and keep it secure — anyone who controls your mailbox can attempt to move your account (see registration lock, below).
- One device. An account is active on one device at a time. Signing in on a new phone moves the account there: the old device is signed out, your profile, connections, and group memberships come back, and your message history does not (it never left your old device). We send a warning email on every device move.
- @usernames. Usernames are unique, claimed first-come. Don't claim a username to impersonate someone, squat a trademark, or deceive. We may reclaim usernames that violate this, and username changes are rate-limited.
- Registration lock. If you enable the optional registration-lock PIN, account recovery and email changes require it. We store only an irreversible hash: if you forget this PIN and lose your phone, nobody — including us — can recover your account. That is a feature, and you accept the consequence when you turn it on.
- Security. You are responsible for your device, your mailbox, and your PIN. Tell us at security@drdesh.app if you believe your account is compromised.
3. Consent is the core rule
Nobody can message or call you on Drdesh until you accept them, and you can block anyone, or silently refuse all new requests, at any time. The mirror image applies to you: attempting to evade someone's block or non-acceptance — with new accounts, tokens, or any other trick — is a violation of these terms, not a puzzle to solve.
4. Acceptable use
Don't use Drdesh to:
- harass, threaten, or defraud people, or send spam or unsolicited bulk messages;
- share content that is illegal to share (including child sexual abuse material, which we report to the relevant authorities);
- infringe others' rights, including impersonation and privacy violations;
- probe, overload, or interfere with the service, its rate limits, or its security measures, or scrape/enumerate users;
- do anything else illegal in your jurisdiction.
Encryption protects your privacy; it does not exempt anyone from these rules. Recipients can report conversations to us by forwarding the messages in question (that is the one way message content ever reaches us — see the Privacy Policy), and we act on those reports.
5. Enforcement
We may warn, restrict, suspend, or ban accounts that violate these terms, and remove content we host (profiles, group names/photos) that violates them. Bans are meant to stick: when a banned account is deleted, we retain a one-way hash of its email address so the same address cannot simply re-register. If you believe we got it wrong, contact support@drdesh.app.
6. Leaving
You can stop using Drdesh at any time and delete your account in Settings → Account. Deletion is immediate and irreversible; what is (and isn't) removed is described precisely in the Privacy Policy.
7. What we promise — and what we don't
We work to keep Drdesh fast, secure, and available, but we provide it "as is" and "as available", without warranties of uninterrupted service, of message delivery, or of fitness for a particular purpose. Messaging depends on devices, networks, and push systems we don't control. Do not rely on Drdesh as your only channel for emergency communication — Drdesh does not support emergency calls (no 911/112 access).
To the maximum extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim arising out of the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for it in the last 12 months (Drdesh is currently free) and the smallest amount your law lets us limit to. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded, or limits rights consumers have by statute.
8. Changes to the service or terms
We may change the service (adding, changing, or removing features) and these terms. For meaningful changes to the terms we will notify you in the app before they take effect; continuing to use Drdesh after that means you accept the new version. If you don't, delete your account — losing users to honesty beats keeping them by stealth.
